To denounce the environment's problem to the world, there are various ways: demonstrations,
speeches, documentaries on TV and movies. It was the solution chosen by Davis Guggenheim in 2006 when he decided to realize "An inconvenient truth" with the participation of Al Gore. His gave
weight to this movie because Al Gore was the forty-fifth Vice President of the United States, serving from 1993 to 2001 under Bill Clinton. He was the Democratic nominee for presidential
elections in 2000 but finnaly he lost in front of the Republican
candidate George W. Bush.He's an
environmental activist andhe was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize (together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for
the "efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change."
It isn't a surprise to say that it's difficult to attract people to see a documentary at the cinema. That's why the promotion of the movie is important. In this aim I will
present you the trailer of "An inconvenient truth" and I'll underline how it denounces the problem of global warming.
In order to have a good trailer, I think three things are important :the weight of words, shocking images and the role of the music. Here the three things are gathered together.
The music is catching you, it provocs fear and suspense. There are various kinds of percussions. Deeper drum give the feeling of a hammer which has to engrave information
in your mind. Shriller drums resound as beats of your heart. You are scared, you know something serious will happen.
Then you have words' weight. We have to see the truth and it "WILL SHAKE YOU TO YOUR CORE" because it is "BY FAR THE MOST TERRIFYING FILM YOU WILL EVER SEE". These
sentences are preparing us to see the worst. The atmosphere is similar to an horror film. And the problem is that we are the actors of this movie!!! The images are winded very quickly as if it was too shocking to see. There are images of storms, lightning, desert, graphs,
tornado, fires, floods and deforestation. Our planet is damaged and we are guilties! This fact is underlined by videos ofpeople
congregated in the street, factories, chimneys and traffic jam which provocs the global warming.
Then, we see Patagonia 75 years ago and today. The snow is only present at summits of montains. It's the same with Mount Kilimanjaro.
Thirty years ago, there was eternal snow, last year it was an arid mountain. There will be no more snows of Kilimanjaro! These two comparisons showthe extent of the damage. It's not just a political issue to be worried about the environment, it's a
moral issue. We are all concerned! If we don't act the impact would be terrible. The Arctic is melting faster which provocs a fast increasing of sea's level. If we don't react, piece of Earth will
disappear: Florida, Shanghai, Calcutta, New York city where the World Trate Center memorial will be under water. Here we understand that the film director is speaking to polluting countries.
These images have to shock their minds. What would be the consequences? Millions and millions of refugees, ruined lives and too many dead bodies. "NOTHING IS SCRARIER THAN THE TRUTH", it's
our hability to live which is at stake but if we act together we can solve the problem!
As a conclusion, this trailer is a success! It underlines the tragic aspect of the situation. We see all the effects of global warming and we can deny we are responsible.
Now, we know the truth, the ball is in our camp. If we love our planet, if we love our children, we have to react. As says the bill: It's A GLOBAL WARNING!
